About Hays Campus

Hays Campus is located inside of the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center in San Marcos, Texas. Hays County operates the Hays Center and the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission provides the license.

Hays is a 135-bed locked-down military style facility serving both pre- and post- adjudicated youth. The facility programs include treating drug and alcohol abuse and sexual offenders. County juvenile probation departments place youth in the facility.

Hays campus serves boys and girls ages 10 to 17. Our current enrollment is 110 students with about 30% in special education.

Our school staff includes a principal, assistant principal, school psychologist (LSSP), registrar, eight core content teachers (math, science, social studies, and English), a P.E. teacher, two technology assistants, and four instructional assistants. Additionally, the campus has two special education teachers that provide resource classes and tutoring.

The campus uses the C-Scope curriculum and students have access to a full range of computer-assisted instruction including A+ learning, Accelerated Math, and Study Island.

Fall 2010

We have just closed out the 2009-2010 school year, and we are already planning on exciting ideas and events for the coming school year in 2010-2011. The Hays Campus, located inside the Hays County Juvenile Center, has been undergoing a beautification process that has included purging unnecessary items, fresh coats of paint, and reorganization.

Over summer, we have been concentrating on improving our student affirmation programs, our GED assistance, our curriculum, and fine tuning classroom instruction. Like any other campus by the first day of school, our teachers will have poured their hearts into their classroom decorations and lesson instruction in preparation for new and old faces. Students start their classes on August 16.

Our students can be challenging, for their stories tuff. However, it is our opportunity to help students overcome a challenge, which wakes us up in the morning. We look forward to a year full of innovation, creativity, learning, and most of all, inspiring our students to create a life worth living.
